The Weekend Review

A cold and wet weekend just passed but that wasn’t enough to stop everyone from enjoying a weekend of football action.

Rockingham City showed a massive improvement from last weeks cup defeat, as they took a 2-0 lead against Perth Glory with goals from Kennedy and Vaenas. However, Glory showed their strength and 3 late first half goals gave the visitors a 3-2 lead at half time. No further goals in the second half but to compound the misery for the hosts, Vaenas was sent off as the game came to a close. Off the pitch, a grand total of $5750 was raised for Worthy Australia, so well done to all who helped raise these funds.

Mandurah City continued their good run with a 2-1 win over Ashfield. Goals from Burns and Boyle gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead and despite Ashfield scoring late in the second half, Mandurah held on to move up to 7th in the league.

Sunday was cup round for the senior teams. In the Amateur cup, Mandurah City lost to South Perth United 7-1, while Port Kennedy lost 4-3 to Perth Hills United. In the reserves cup, Peel United lost 4-2 to South Perth United and Port Kennedy were given a walk over to progress to the next round.

In the ladies state league cup, Mandurah City were beaten 4-0 by South West Phoenix. In the ladies metro cup, Rockingham City were the big winners, beating South Perth United 10-0. Baldivis Districts also progressed to the next round winning 2-1 against South Perth United and Baldivis were given a walk over to also go into the hat for the next round.
