The Saturday Review

It was a case of so near yet so far for Rockingham City on Saturday as they narrowly lost 1-0 at home to Bayswater City.

The visitors had plenty of opportunities score, hitting the post on three occasions but it looked like Rockingham were going to hold on for a point until the 88th minute when Zimarino for Bayswater scored from a goal mouth scramble. The result leaves Rocky rooted at the bottom of the table.

In the state league, it was an emotional day at Mandurah City on Saturday as the club had just learnt of the sad passing of club supporter Eddie Nixon. Eddie was often seen in and around the ground in his famous flat cap and to honour Eddie, the crowd were invited to wear a flat cap during the game. We would like to pass on our thoughts and best wishes to wife Barbara and all of the Nixon family and friends….RIP Eddie.

On the pitch, a John Baird goal in the 80th minutes was enough to get all three points for the Dolphins. In a strange quirk of results, the win actually dropped Mandurah down to 8th place in the table but with some clear daylight between them and 9th place Swann United, the Dolphins should really now kick on and hope for one of the top 4 spots at the end of the season.
