With only 9 men left on the pitch by full time Rockingham City pulled off a fine 2-1 win v Gwelup Croatia SC
Rocky opened the scoring when Zaw ran down the right wing, cut inside the penalty area and fired his shot in at the near post. Already at this stage, Rocky were on top and it was no surprise when Luke Collins 25 meter shot took a deflection to make the Gwelup keeper wrong footed to make it 2-0. Gwelup then came into the game and 5 minutes before half time, a looping cross caught everyone out and the Gwelup striker beat Cyril to the ball to make it 2-1.
The second half saw a completely different Gwelup side as they had the vast majority of possession but could not create this into goals. Even when Rocky went down to 10 min with 20 mins to go and then 9 men with 5 to go, Rocky held out to get a valuable 3 points and now are only 2 points behind Balcatta at the foot of the table.
Speaking from the clubs Facebook site, coach Lee Taylor said “Once again the players were phenomenal, the heart and desire they showed throughout the game was excellent. In the first half we had chances to score more goals and could have gone in at half time with a bigger lead. Against a quality team like Gwelup they will always have periods of the game were they will be on top throughout the game, however, defensively we were excellent especially when we were unfortunately down to 10 then 9 men near the end of the game. It’s another 3 points in the bag and we now move on to another tough home game next Saturday against ECU Joondalup”
The club also sai farewell and good luck to Jethro Yumange as he leaves for America, the next step in his Football journey.
