Congratulations To Port Kennedy Junior Ava Burke

Many congratulations to one of Port Kennedy ‘s Junior Girls players.

Young Ava, from the u16s Division 1 girls team has been selected to represent Australia in the Futsal Club World Cup this December in Barcelona.

To acknowledge the incredible level at which Ava will be playing, clubs such as Barcelona, Corinthians and LA Galaxy will be in attendance to name but a few.

This tournament will be held over 5 days, starting on the 26th December, 2022 and will be a group format, followed by knockouts.
It will be run with official FIFA Futsal regulations,Court size/Stop clock/Referees. All at the top level of Futsal.

A little bit about Ava.

Ava first started playing football when she was 8 years old with the boys u10 team during our families extended return trip to Ireland.
There she played for Ballinasloe FC, a team that boasts Irish international female football star Heather Payne.
Upon her return to Perth Ava had developed the bug and signed up for Baldivis FC playing U12’s (Top Goalscorer) & U13’s ( in an all boys league) where again she finished top goalscorer and picked up player of the year.

During this time, Ava was selected by South Coast Baptist College and Safety Bay SHS Specialist Football Program as a part of their football scholarships.
Ava selected SCBC where she now enjoys not only a top development program lead by Dough Hesketh and Matthew Brook. A big shout out must go to Stephen Posthuma who without his vision and involvement none of which would have been possible.

That summer Ava embarked on her futsal journey which has been incredible to say the least, joining the then Fremantle Wolves (now going by the name Cockburn Wolves).
Training every Monday from 4:30 – 5:30 with her JSFL (Junior State Futsal League) team mates and from 5:30 – 6:30 with the senior WSFL (Women State Futsal League).

Ava is currently a proud member of Port Kennedys U16 DIV 1 girls Team where she enjoys feeling part of a wider community which boasts some, if not all of her closest friends.
The sense of value and pride Ava has when putting on the Blue and White jersey of PK each week is evident in the way she plays with passion, pride and determination for herself and her teammates. Additionally, Ava is training with the senior women every Thursday which provides a further pathway into senior Football.
