Games between Mandurah City and Rockingham City are usually tense, tight and sometimes explosive and Saturday’s State League game was no different.
With both teams starting fairly slowly, the first and really only talking point of the first half was John Baird ‘s left foot shot from just outside the penalty area crash against the crossbar.
There must have been something in the half time tea as both teams started the second half with a quicker tempo and the game exploded into life in the 54th minute as Mukwevho put the visitors 1 up. The joy of the visiting supporters was short lived as Barker equalised 5 minutes later. The Dolphin supporters were still celebrating this goal when a defensive mistake on the half way line allowed Robbie Galvin to run through and slotted the ball past Alfie Brincat in the Mandurah goal.
The Dolphins tried their best to get the equaliser and so nearly did when Van Dieken had a header that rebounded off the post and straight into the keepers arms.
Unfortunately, Mandurah had two players sent off in injury time. Alex Grayson got a straight red for a late tackle while Harry Collins received his 2nd yellow card deep into stoppage time.
The other results of the day saw Rockingham Reserves win 2-0, while the under 18’s saw a win for Mandurah by 4-2.
