We start our Saturday review from the game on Friday night where Mandurah City gained second place and a home semi final in the top 4 cup with a 4-2 win over Dianella White Eagles. Watched by another bumper crowd, the home side went into a 2-0 lead with goals from Van Dieken and captain for the night, Joe O’Brien before the visitors got back into the gamewith 2 goals to draw level at half time. The half time drinks were still being served when guest striker Leigh Griffiths made it 2 in 2 immediately after the restart while O’Brien got his second and secured the golden boot award with a clinical finish. The only sour part of the evening was player coach John Baird receiving a red card late on in the game that could potentially rule him out of the finals action.
An equally, if not more so impressive performance came on Saturday as Rockingham City travelled to 4th placed Fremantle City. The home side went 1 up before Shaun Mukwevho equalised before the home team scored a few minutes before half time to make it 2-1. Not many in the crowd would have guessed what happened in the second half, but goals from Carter and a Robbie Galvin double gave Rockingham a fine 4-2 win to leave them 6th in the final table and plenty of opportunities to build for next season.
