The state league division 1 top goalscorer, Joe O’Brien was the hero for Mandurah City on Sunday afternoon as they beat title winners Olympic Kingsway 1-0 in the top 4 final at Dorrien Gardens.
Mandurah started the game on the front foot and had lots of early pressure in the first 20 minutes of the game but were unable to break the deadlock. Kingsway then got into the game and with neither team creating a clear goalscoring opportunity, the game remained 0-0 at half time.
The second half started the same way as the first but Alfie Brincat in the Mandurah goal was the busier of the two keepers producing a series of fine saves to keep a clean sheet.
The crowd were then sensing that it would take a moment of magic to seal the game for either side and it was O’Brien’s wizardry, with his only opportunity of the game who sealed the win for Mandurah.
Kinsway tried to get back into the game but then they were reduced down to 10 men, it was effectively game over for them and the Dolphins got the deserved victory.
