Thank you to Robert Edwards from the Peel Walking Football Club for this report:
Saturday 22nd October 2022 – Fox Football Fives, Floreat, WA
The AWFA State Festival for 2022 was held on a warm and partly cloudy day after some overnight rain which had settled the artificial grass playing surface.
Seven clubs were represented with 6 teams in the 50+ league competition and 4 teams in the 60+ competition.
It is fair to say the standard of play by all teams was to a high standard and all games played in fair, enjoyable yet competitive manner.
Congratulations to all who took.
Regarding the Peel Regional Walking Football Club teams; The Peel Ramblers in the 50+ competition and The Peel Boomers in the 60+ competition
Very good results were attained with both teams reaching the finals stage of the competition.
Peel Ramblers:
Great play by all the Ramblers players throughout the competition. Those that had not played at Floreat found it interesting but enjoyable and are keen to play there again. Whilst not winning the competition the games were a dramatic improvement over their last outing only a few weeks before. All players should take great pride in their play and the way they represented the PRWFC.
Peel Boomers:
The Boomers suffered major setbacks in the first game after two players were injured and after trying to struggle on needed to be substituted from the rest of the competition. Even with these injured players the Boomers managed to pull off a decisive win over the Royals in the first game.
The results of the last two games were mixed, but enough to see the Boomers top of the ladder, on goal difference.
Peel Boomers lost in the Semi-Final 1-0 to the Royals on a golden goal decision after a closely fought game
The Royals went on the win the Grand Final against Wanneroo City.
