Week 2 of the State League night series competition saw plenty of goals for our local sides, but with a mixed bag of results.
Mandurah City all but qualified for the next round with a comprehensive 7-3 win over Forrestfield United. Goals grom John Baird (his 200th career goal), Joey O’Brien, Craig Barker, Dylan Rogers, Hamish Van Dieken (2) and Sam Byrne saw the Dolphins through this tough game.
It was a game of two halves for Rockingham City on Friday night as they stormed into a 2-0 lead against Ashfield Sports, with Taylor Carter scoring both goals. Ashfield pulled one back in the 50th minute through Gareth Hamilton and then Ben Entwistle levelled the scores with 20 minutes to go. With the game heading for a draw, it was Ashfield’s Jarad Flavel with the winner with 8 minutes remaining.
This weekend sees the last round of group games, with Mandurah City playing Canning City on Friday night at 8.30pm while Rockingham City must win their last game to have any chance of qualifying for the next round, when they take on Subiaco on Sunday night with a 7pm kick off.
Both games are being played at Forrestfield United.
