Blood, Sweat and Red Cards

Despite the hot weekend, there was still some great football action over the weekend.

Saturday evening had the State League Night Series quater final between Mandurah City and Rockingham City. Before any mention of the game, we would like to pass on our best wishes and a speedy recovery to Mandurah defender Aaron McCready who suffered a nasty head injury during the game.

As for the game itself, some described it as a game of 2 halves. Joe O’Brien opened the scoring in the 2nd minute for Mandurah and Craig Bzker added the second on 22 minutes. During the first half injury time, O’Brien added his second and John Baird Made it 201 career goals with a penalty to make it 4-0.

With both sets of supporters in fine voice, it tokkuntil the 80th minute before Rockingham got on the score sheet through Jayden Leader. Mandurah were then reduced to 10 men as Shaun Mukwevho was shown a second yellow card and a few moments later, Robbie Galvin was sent of for a late challenge to reduce Mandurah to 9 men. Rockingham tried to get back in the game, but it finished 4-1. Mandurah’s reward is a semi final game on Sunday night against Western Knights.

The Australia Cup started on Sunday afternoon and it was a winning start for Port Kennedy. A second half hat trick for Matthew Warren was the difference between the two sides, in a game that was a little niggly at times. Port Kennedy’s reward is an away trip to Busselton in the best round, in a trip which I imaging, will be a fun one for all connected with the club.
